Diana's approach to classroom teaching is informed by her time as a public school teacher and by her research on education in the United States. To this end, she centers the experiences of historically underrepresented and marginalized students in academia in her teaching. As a middle school social studies teacher, she employed teaching strategies that empowered her students to bring their community and familial knowledge into the classroom by following the philosophies of additive schooling and culturally responsive education- something she continues to do now when teaching undergraduate and graduate students on topics related to race, public policy, and social theory. Working with students continues to inspire and shape her research and professional interests. Diana's academic training and experience teaching students ranges from seventh grade to graduate school, having taught or co-taught graduate-level classes centered on research methods, social stratification, race and education policy, and urban studies as well as undergraduate classes on social theory and educational justice.
